Monhegan, Maine
put your ear down close to the ground and listen hard
~ Anne Sexton ~
Dear Maker,
Have you ever dreamed of extending your creative time on Monhegan ~ just a few more days of quiet and space before returning to the bustle of daily life? Time to nurture a project you’ve been working on or begin something new: something inspired by your time on retreat, or something that’s been calling you, patiently waiting to be explored, something you’re not ready yet to let go?
I have come to know that even a short stretch in a reflective setting can lead to profound progress and possibilities. Monhegan is that place for me, the place to which I return again and again, the place I wish to share with you.
For years, I have longed to offer a mini-residency designed to facilitate deep work and creative breakthroughs, so for the first time, you are invited to Gather in Grace ~ to take the next step into your creativity.
If this sort of experience speaks to you as something to extend your retreat time OR to come for a shorter intensive mini-residency, I encourage you to register. This is intended to be an intimate experience, limited to no more than eight persons.
What to expect:
Our days will be loosely structured and include: morning writing meditations, solo work time, 1:1 advising sessions, conversations, and connections with fellow creatives to clarify next steps and maintain momentum after the residency is over. There will be plenty of time to allow yourself to get lost in the ebb and flow of the splendor of Monhegan’s rugged beauty ten miles out to sea.
Who should attend?
Anyone who is committed to their creativity and has a project in progress or a project of the imagination in need of time and space to nurture. Anyone who desires 1:1 thoughtful feedback or editorial assistance.
What should I bring?
Often, when we have a short, concentrated time to work, it’s best to limit the scope and take a deeper dive into a single project. That might mean gathering notes for a specific essay or for a chapter within a larger piece of writing. It might look like bringing a collection of poems you envision becoming a chapbook, but still need tinkering to become a cohesive sequence. It might be bringing research materials for reading and reflection. It might be allowing yourself to play with an entirely new medium, leaving yourself open to unimagined possibilities. The choice is up to you!
