yesterday i listened to the many sounds of rain falling upon my thirsty island while i baked. first bread, then brownies. i prepared for teaching at the university of rochester later this fall, and i came to a decision: a while ago, i spoke of switching this newsletter over to substack, and i'm finally going to do it. i've told myself i was resistant to the change because of my desire to control how my newsletter "looks," but if i’m honest it’s more my fear and insecurities creeping in ~ of putting myself out there and publicly failing. it happens whenever i try something new. still, it's time. why? because substack is the platform and the form of social media i engage with the most. it’s where i’ve come to learn from other writers, and to further embrace the process and practice of writing itself. it's time for me to welcome my fear, and grow my voice. it’s time to contribute my stories to a larger conversation, to trust my words are strong enough to stand up on their own. this is me, learning to compromise. substance over assumed style this is me, allowing myself to speak. what does this mean for you as a reader? for now there will be no changes ~ you’ll still receive my bimonthly-ish writings and access to my archive. the only thing that will look different is the font ~ i know, i’m a little crazy. my apologies for the length of this newsletter. if you’re willing to scroll bit further, i encourage you to keep going and know about my other upcoming offerings. thanks for reading, as always i welcome your comments and knowing how you are ~ until next time xosew
